it DOES rain in southern california. i always clown on "Storm Watch fill-in-the-year" because usually it just means rain. but today... the huge downpour flooded my work parking garage and back streets i use to get out of work. then the fire alarm went off, and we evacuated the building. no electricity for the rest of the day, but i couldn't leave anyway because my car was trapped in the surface lot. we're standing outside, watching fire truck after fire truck go by, responding to any number of emergencies brought on by the rain and tornado warning. no cell phone, no phone numbers. i finally get the clear to drive off, and get stuck on a half mile stretch of the 710 for half an hour. talk about being ill prepared for minor emergencies.
